Iain Walker
My major research interests are in social sciences and sustainability, the social psychology of intergroup relations, relative deprivation and social justice; social representations; and critical social psychology. My work is aimed at applying social scientific knowledge to social issues, from stereotyping to climate change. This research is primarily concerned with understanding and engaging with processes of social change and with the interplay between theory and practice. My overarching science goal is to develop more potent and durable ways to produce environmental, social, and behavioural change. This requires the integration of different social psychological theories specified at different levels of analysis, and different empirical results produced from competing epistemological paradigms. In other words, my goal is to join analyses of ecosystems, social systems, and egosystems, to enhance sustainability within and across those systems.
